    The Sleep Tight Motel

I had a hard time deciding how I felt about this novel and whether or not I really liked it. It had it’s good points, some decent characters, and a somewhat unexpected romance. However, despite being listed as a suspense story I didn’t actually find this story to be all that suspenseful. The characters were too one dimensional, they were either all good or all bad and the direction of the story can be guessed fairly quickly. The main issue I took with the story was the comparisons between nice guy and bad boy relationships. The main character’s best friend is an obvious mirror, and she sees her friend’s relationship…

    Becoming Violet

Kacey Jones is your average young adult working and going to college while saving to go onto university with her friends. She has these recurring nightmares that haunt her and one morning after waking up she realizes she’s not so average after all. When I went into this book I actually had no idea exactly what to expect because the original synopsis was extremely vague and didn’t give much hint as to what the story was about. I was pleasantly surprised that it turned out to be a vampire novel, the more monstrous kind too. The pacing at the start of the novel was pretty good, it set the stage…

    Gothic Tales of Haunted Love

When I first laid eyes on this collection I knew I had to read it. The cover is stunning and the idea of Gothic romance comics instantly caught my attention, being a fan of gothic literature in it’s various forms. It was a fast read and while I found a few spectacular comics in the collection I ended up feeling only lukewarm overall. Gothic Tales of Haunted Love seeks to revitalize an aging genre of literature while paying homage to the short-lived gothic romance comics of the 1970’s and 1980’s. Despite a variety of tropes that have become standard in the genre I feel that there is a lot more…

    Storm Born

Back in the day when I had a Nook Color, a friend of mine and I used to exchange books pretty often. I loved most of the books she loaned me, and so when I saw Storm Born pop up on my device I instantly accepted the loan without even thinking. After reading a chapter or two I thought to myself, “What the hell am I reading?” and finally looked up the synopsis to the book. I furrowed my brow wondering what I had gotten myself into. A kitsune and a bondage fairy? This is the kind of stuff that I would have been into over a decade ago. Not…

    The Prophecy of Arcadia

Prophecies and aliens take a backseat to high school drama and hormones in this young adult paranormal romance. The Prophecy of Arcadia was a debut novel about a teenage girl that finds out she is involved in the prophecy of an alien race called the Arcadians. I had read this book when it was first released in 2014 and it was one of the first paranormal romance books I had ever read. I had always intended on getting back to the series, however, it seems to have been dropped by the author after the second book and is no longer for sale nor are the books listed on her website.…
