Top Five Most Anticipated 2019 Releases

A new year coming means that there will be a bunch of brand new 2019 releases to be excited for! I really enjoyed looking up and writing a post for this in Januar and I wanted to do another post for next year. Working on this list got me really hyped for several books that weren’t on my radar at all, so I’m very happy to share this list with you all!

Descendant of the Crane

A Chinese-inspired fantasy? Hello sign me up! The cover for this book is one of the most marvelous I’ve seen in a long time and it instantly caught my eye. The story follows a princess that finds herself in power after the murder of her father. Soothsayers, treason, and a young empress looking for answers to save her kingdom – the deception and betrayals of ancient Chinese dynasties seems to be very much the focus of this novel and I couldn’t be more excited.

The Waking Forest

This fantasy sounds dark and dreamy all at the same time. Revolving around a forest that seems to be nothing more than an illusion, a witch that grants wishes, and a stranger that isn’t welcome in the forest. I absolutely love forests and love stories about them even more. I can be really choosy when it comes to fantasy, but the synopsis for this book sounds wonderful and I’m honestly looking forward to picking this one up as soon as I can.

An Anonymous Girl

I’ve completely fallen in love with the psychological thriller genre, so naturally the most anticipated thriller has to be on my list of anticipated reads. This is the second book by author duo Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen and their first book, The Wife Between Us received a lot of praise last year. I’ve yet to read their other book, but the premise for An Anonymous Girl sounds really unique compared to many of the books in the psychological thriller genre. An woman signs up to participate in a study and after having parts of her life controlled and being questioned about things that are too personal, the woman starts to lose touch with reality. I love unreliable narrators, so this book is one of the ones I’m most hyped to read.

Upon A Burning Throne

I’ve seen this book described as Game of Thrones set in India and quite frankly I’m all about it. It centers on several children that have legitimate claims to the throne and the feud between families, and there’s a demon lord so there will be some magic and supernatural elements? The cover is amazing I’m ready for some lush fantasy world building and wonderful political intrigue.

The Night Tiger

Another sophomore novel by a highly acclaimed author, The Ghost Bride was praised when the book debuted six years ago. The Night Tiger has an interesting premise with a houseboy searching for the stolen finger of his deceased master in order to put his soul to rest. The boy finds his fate intertwined with a dance hall girl that is desperately trying to get rid of the finger, believing it to be bad luck. This is the second book on my list about Chinese mysticism which makes me hopeful that there will be many more Asian voices in literature next year.

What are some popular books that you’re looking forward to reading next year?

  1. Hallo, Hallo! 🙂

I appear to be the last person to realise when there are new books by authors I love to read – this is one reason I need to start writing those blog posts about ‘where are they now’ in regards to the authors I’ve enjoyed reading these past five years! So much can happen when your reading – sometimes I really do forget to follow-up with beloved authors – case in point – you’ve just clued me into the fact there is a new novel by the author of The Ghost Bride!!

Although, the premise is a bit unusual – I wonder if it plays out better than it sounds? As that is such an awkward lead-in?

Descendant of the Crane sounds wonderful – I love reading Fantasy but this one sounds uniquely different!

Thanks for cluing me into some of the upcoming #mustreads for the NY! I hope you enjoy them as they start to arrive!
